It showcases several great ways to achieve some of the benefits of mini lifting without all the stress of that scalpel. Otherwise, read on!
What is a Mini Facelift?
A mini face lift enhances key facial areas with less risk and stress as compared to standard face lifting procedures. It reduces sagging around the jaw line, cheeks and neck, and it is a more economical alternative to your run-of-the-mill, standard facelift surgery.
By taking the advantage of endoscopic face lifting and using small incisions, the cosmetic surgeon repositions, lifts and removes facial tissues to get the best possible results. After eliminating the factors responsible for drooping and sagging, the surgeon carefully repositions the skin using small stitches.
Mini lifting is a relatively new technique and focuses on specific areas of the face including folds around the nose and neck. It works well in younger patients who have aging symptoms in the middle of their faces and do not have too much excess skin around their jaw line and neck. You can expect less hassle altogether and it’s cheaper too!
This “light” surgery is also known by various names such as the mini lift, s-lift, limited-incision facelift or baby boomer facelift. It is also known as a weekend facelift because it can be performed quickly and its recovery period is very short.
NOTE: Heavy smokers are not ideal candidates for facelift surgery because they are at greater risk when undergoing general anesthetic
Should I be Concerned About Any Mini Lift Surgery Risks?
Like any other clinical procedure, experience will always be key. Since different people differ considerably in their bodily reactions, healing capabilities and anatomy, the results are never completely predictable.
Just make sure you pick a doctor who is qualified and experienced with the procedure and everything should be fine and dandy. Follow your surgeon’s advice both prior to and after surgery to further reduce any risks or problems that may arise.
Mini Facelift Surgery: Step-By-Step Preparations
Here are some simple things to take note of before taking the mini facelift plunge! But first...
If you are planning to undergo this surgery, then you should know how it will go step by step.
- The surgeon will evaluate your face, skin and underlying bone to set some goals for the surgery.
- The surgeon will check medical conditions such as blood clotting problems, unrestrained blood pressure and a tendency towards excessive scarring that may cause problems during or after surgery.
- The surgeon will inquire about any medication or drugs that you may currently be taking, especially any drugs that may affect clotting.
- If the surgeon feels that everything is fine, he/she will schedule your surgery as per your convenience.
Do not hesitate to ask any questions regarding your concerns and expectations about the results of the surgery. Better to be aware of any issues early on rather than later!
Mini Facelift Procedure: Say Goodbye to Saggy Skin
The mini facelift procedure includes repositioning of the muscles in areas of the face that show symptoms of aging. In most cases, the incision will be about one-half the length of a standard facelift incision. At the end of the procedure, incisions are concealed behind the ears.
Every different surgeon will have their own way to accomplish the procedure. Some will work simultaneously on both sides of your face and others work on just one side at a time. The sequence of events and exact place of incision still depends on every patient’s own situation.
In general, most surgeons follow these following steps:
The skin is separated from the muscle and fat below.
Sometimes, suction or fat trimming is also performed around the chin or neck in order to improve the contour.
Sometimes, suction or fat trimming is also performed around the chin or neck in order to improve the contour.
The skin is pulled back and excess skin is removed.
Finally, the incision is closed with stitches so as to protect the tissues.
After the surgery, surgeons place a small thin tube temporarily under the skin behind your ear to drain any blood collected there.
The surgeon may also wrap bandages around the head so as to minimize swelling and bruising.
Your surgeon will advise you to keep your head elevated for a couple of days after the surgery to keep the swelling down. If a drainage tube has been inserted, then it will be removed after two to three days or so. If bandages are used, then they are generally removed after one to five days.
Remember not to feel too bad when you see your puffy, bruised and pale post-procedure-face. All of this is normal and is a part of the healing process.
Most of your stitches will be removed approximately one week after surgery but your scalp will probably take a little longer to heal. The metal clips or stitches on your hairline could be left for few more days depending on the speed of recovery.
You’ll be happy to know that generally-speaking, the patient does not feel much discomfort after surgery. If there is any discomfort, it will be subtle enough to control with pain-relief medication prescribed by your surgeon. A little numbness is usually all you will need to expect after surgery but it disappears within a few weeks.
- WARNING: If you do feel severe pain and sudden swelling, then it should be reported to your surgeon immediately.
Mini Face Lift Recovery
Although you will start to feel quite normal after the initial two to three days, you should still take some proper time to rest. Allot another week or two to get back into the groove of things. Be gentle with your hair and face because your skin will be numb and tender after the surgery and may not respond normally at first. This is the new you so you want to make sure that everything heals properly.
Your surgeon may provide you with a few more guidelines for resuming your day-to-day activities:
- Get plenty of rest so that your body can spend its energy on healing
- Avoid tiring activities such as hectic household work and sexual intercourse for at least two weeks
- Avoid saunas, steam baths and alcohol for several months. (Sorry, party girls… beauty comes at a price!)
Most patients get back to work within 10-14 days after surgery. However, if it’s still not completely healed by then, special concealing makeup can hide the rest of the bruising.
IS A MINI FACELIFT A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR SAGGING SKIN?
SPOILER ALERT: Sadly, a mini facelift is not a permanent solution and your face, along with the rest of the world, will continue to age with time. This doesn’t mean to say that you can’t get another mini lift every now and then, right? An advanced mini facelift will help you to look younger and better than the individuals of your age group and repeating the procedure once every ten years doesn’t seem like too bad of a value in the long run.
Mini This Mini That
So, we’ve discussed pretty much everything you’re going to need to know about your next mini facelift procedure but that’s not all… In fact, there are a whole bunch of “mini” things you can do to your body to escape the sags of time! Check them out below:
Mini Neck Lift
A mini-neck lift is a good option for those who have symptoms of aging limited to their neck area. In this procedure, an incision is made under the chin but some patients will also require one around the ears as well. Whatever the case, this is a great way to cut down or remove excessive sagginess from your neck area.
Mini Brow Lift
A Mini brow lift is a non-endoscopic, minimally invasive and quick method of correcting all those classy frown lines you’ve collected over the years. This method tightens the muscles and skin on the forehead. The main advantages of this method over traditional brow lift surgery are the lack of major scarring and a super quick recovery period. This procedure involves an incision of about two inches that remains hidden at the back of the hairline.

Correcting your frown lines raises your eyebrows and improves the symmetry of your forehead and face. Since the incisions are quite small, there is so much less to be stressed out about and this is a good thing because you must have been stressed out for long enough to get those frown lines in the first place! (Curse you, parenthood!)
Mini Breast Lift (WARNING... NUDITY AHEAD!)
A breast lift, more commonly known as mastopexy, is a surgery performed to reshape and lift sagging breasts. Factors such as pregnancy and nursing will inevitably change the appearance of your breasts. As women age, there is no telling how the elasticity of their skin will change over the years and some women will lose the shape and firmness of their breasts.
This procedure can give you your perky back, plain and simple! Best of all, the tiny scars left after your mastopexy will be covered easily by a bra or a bathing suit.
How Much Does a Mini Face Lift Cost?
You may be asking yourself, “how much is a mini facelift?” or “how much does a mini facelift cost?” Since only a local anesthetic is used in this surgery and it does not require any post-operative hospitalization and the cost of a mini face lift is therefore considerably lower than your standard facelift.
If you decide to get the procedure, your mini facelift cost will depend on the number of threads used in the surgery and some other similar factors. Those variable factors may include:
- The hospital chosen
- Experience of the surgeon
- The amount work involved in the treatment
Experienced, well-skilled and renowned doctors charge higher fees but at least you will be paying for quality work. In most cases, other charges such as anesthetics, hospital fees and after care charges are also incorporated in the package.
Here are some going rates for the procedure:
Mini facelift cost UK
around £2000 to £10000
Mini facelift cost US
anywhere from $3400 to $9600
Now I want to be quite clear... I'm no accountant! But in the hopes of being able to give you guys a better idea of what you're looking at spending, your beloved Sage has checked out some rates and came up with this super simple table above.
