Laser Skin Tightening 101: Zap The Years Away

Lasers are used for pretty much anything in this modern skin tightening age!

These days you won't be surprised to find them all over the skincare industry--whether it's skin rejuvenation, tattoo removal, hair removal, pigmentation or acne removal or many others, laser skin solutions are available to everyone as long as the price is right and it looks like they are here to stay.

That's why I decided to put together this article and I hope it will be able to give you a good idea of all the different laser skin treatment procedures that are available out there. The truth of the matter is that these treatments offer much, much more than you'd expect from something that doesn't involve any cutting or incisions. Who knows, maybe you could use one yourself! That's why you're here, right? 😉

So, read on my disciples! Laser skin tightening may very well give you a great alternative to other severely invasive or surgical procedures (like a mini lift or worse) and maybe this article will give you enough information to decide whether or not it’s right for you.

By the way, I will be discussing laser hair removal treatment in another post soon so I decided to exclude it from this particular article.

Otherwise, I tried my best to be thorough yet concise… and off we go!

Laser skin tightening is an exceptional alternative for facial rejuvenation that provides remarkable results. It gives you plenty of results without all the hassles of surgical incisions all over the place. Skin tightening laser treatment practically dissolves wrinkles and loose skin from your body and you will have a younger, smoother appearance to show for it.

Laser treatment for skin is a non-surgical and minimally invasive process that tightens skin by heating collagen underneath by using an infrared light source or a laser. It will safely provide you with firmer, youthful skin all over your body at a fraction of the effort it will usually take for more difficult skin procedures.

This is why Laser for skin tightening is becoming increasingly popular these days. It’s FDA approved for the reduction of skin laxity, wrinkles and fine lines, and facial skin tightening can be noticed immediately after one appointment. Results get even better after two to three sittings.

Although the results of this technique are not as dramatic as those of a surgical face lift, patients like this treatment because they get moderate to great results with practically no downtime. Awesome!

How Does Laser Skin Treatment Work?

The laser heats the collagen under the skin to specific temperatures. This heating produces a natural biological reaction that contracts the collagen and makes it thicker. As the skin is wounded by the heat, the body produces new collagen to heal. This new collagen production causes immediate tightening of the skin. All of this conveniently makes the skin tighter and smoother!

Laser for skin can be used on your face, arms, hands, abdomen and legs. Usually four to six treatment sessions at an interval of two to four weeks are more than enough to get good results.

Generally, your laser treated area will heal completely in two to three weeks IF you can religiously accomplish the following:

  • Make sure to cleanse your face gently
  • Apply antibiotic cream to the treated area in order to avoid infection (this has to be done several times a day for approximately one week)
  • For next few weeks after the treatment, apply a mild moisturizer to prevent skin from drying
  • Wear high SPF factor sun screen cream and to remain out of reach of the sun

How Long Does Laser Skin Tightening Work?

After using this treatment to treat loose skin and wrinkles on your body, you can expect the treatment to last for several years. With more treatments performed, more collagen is built up and stimulated and this will leave relatively long-lasting effects on your body. This is why it is important to make sure to get the treatment done by an experienced practitioner.

Be careful though… single treatments may cost very little, but depending on the amount of sagginess you intend to work on, this may not be the most cost-effective method for the long-term. Unfortunately, like all things fleeting, you will ultimately need more treatments after a few years to maintain an optimum effect.

How To Get A Flatter Stomach With Laser Treatment?

I’m sure you’ve put two and two together, as any enterprising skin tightening disciple may do… if you’ve read this long in you may have asked yourself, “can you tighten your flabby tummies with lasers??”

“YES, YOU CAN!”, said the Sage.

Laser skin tightening stomach treatment is a non-surgical treatment that helps you to get a flatter belly. Laser light is passed through the skin and that heats the fat to the point of breaking the cells. As a result of this, you get a flatter belly! Hooray for science!

Is Laser Skin Tightening Treatment Painful?

OK let’s get this out of the way. Sure, a blast of focused light heating up your skin may have raised some imagery from Star Wars or Guardians of the Galaxy. “Won’t this fry my skin?!”, you may ask.

Don’t worry; this treatment is not as painful as you might think.

Practitioners use an anesthetic cream over the area to be treated so as to reduce any risk or discomfort for the patient. In most cases, patients may experience nothing more than a light heating sensation. Sometimes patients may also experience a mild stinging sensation similar to the sensation of a rubber band being snapped against the skin but I’m sure most of you can handle something like that.

To make things even more comfortable, the hand piece used for this treatment regularly produces cooling blasts of air in order to ease the heating sensation experienced by the patient and to prevent the outer layer of skin from burning. How cool is that? (Terrible pun. Yes, I know!)

Like with anything you may read about on this blog, you need to be very cautious while choosing a skin tightening treatment for yourself.

Various cosmetic surgeons, dermatologists and spas may offer you skin tightening treatments that you don’t know about. Some may promise ‘instant results’ but there is a possibility that some of them may not be qualified to be suggesting procedures for you.

REMEMBER… Always choose an experienced and reputable skin clinic and surgeon!

Though any discomfort experienced by the patient will usually disappear within a few minutes of the session, you shouldn’t be surprised if you encounter a subtle warmth in the treated skin for one to two days after you leave the clinic.

Apart from skin tightening, laser is also used for skin lightening. Using advanced laser skin therapy, we can treat surface pigmentation problems like age spots, liver spots, melasma, chloasma, hyper pigmentation, uneven dark skin and more. The light energy from the laser is targeted towards the melanin in your skin and it literally absorbs the heat. By this process, the pigmentation is eliminated from your skin. Cleverly done, science!

Melanin is eliminated from the body in either of these situations:

  • check
Melanin is broken down into microscopic particles by the laser light and leaves the skin via natural circulatory or excretory system.
  • check
Melanin initially turns darker and forms a thin, dark layer on the skin. After one or two weeks the darkened pigmentation layer flakes away leaving just a small trace of the original mark. The skin will then continue to renew itself and the blemish/discoloration soon disappears.

Laser therapy for skin leaves you with a natural rose color. In addition, it also produces 40% increase in collagen and thus tightens you up, reduces fine lines and replenishes moisture.

Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Laser Skin Surgery?

Unfortunately, not everyone is an ideal candidate for laser skin surgery. People with sensitive skin may not be able to tolerate the lubricants and medications used on the skin during the healing process.

Darker-skinned patients are also not ideal candidates for laser surgery for skin because the treatment will change the color of your skin too dramatically and will not produce the desired effect of removing or hiding imperfections.

Instead, the artificial lightening may show up quite drastically against your naturally dark pigmentation and no one wants that, right?

NOTE: Although such individuals may generally not be perfect for skin laser surgery, more experienced surgeons may consider your situation and may accept you on a case-to-case basis. It never hurts to ask!

What Can I Expect After Laser Skin Removal Treatment?

You may expect minor swelling and redness on the treated area immediately after laser skin tag removal treatment but all these minor symptoms will disappear within 24 hours. In most cases, you will not need any recovery time and will be able to perform your daily activities straight away.

Skin laser resurfacing is another well-known skin laser technique. Also known as laser vaporization or laser peel, this procedure can reduce blemishes, scars and facial wrinkles. It can also improve following minor facial flaws:

  • Scars from chickenpox or acne
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose
  • Warts
  • Liver Spots
  • Sun-damaged, aged skin
  • Non-responsive skin after a facelift
  • Wrinkles or fine lines around the eyes, mouth or forehead
  • Improves complexion ( for gray or yellow skin tones)

How Does Co2 Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment Work?

In a nut shell, Co2 skin resurfacing laser treatment creates a healing process that removes older damaged skin to expose newly-healed, smoother, younger-looking skin. In the same way, the Co2 laser is also used in the treatment of wrinkles and deeper facial lines.

Here is a laser skin resurfacing article I wrote a little bit ago, that has more specific details about the procedure.

Managing Your Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost

The exact laser skin tightening cost may vary and includes following charges:

  • Surgeon’s fees
  • Anesthesia fees
  • Surgical facility costs
  • Expenses incurred from pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Prescriptions for medication

Scheduling a consultation appointment with a laser surgeon is the best way to get an accurate idea about your own laser skin treatment cost. Be sure to ask your specialist about all the costs that may be involved.

At the end of the day, even if it would most probably cost more, be sure to choose an experienced surgeon for your laser skin resurfacing treatment.

I wrote another short article on this as well; click here to read more about managing your laser skin resurfacing cost.

Skin laser rejuvenation provides a smoother appearance to the skin by improving following things:

  • Fine lines and facial wrinkles
  • Broken blood vessels, skin tone, rosacea, red and blue facial veins
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Age spots
  • Pigmentation Problems

How Long Does The Skin Rejuvenation Laser Treatment Last?

The time needed to complete the treatment will naturally depend on the size of the area to be treated or the severity of the case. This may range from few minutes to an hour depending on the situation.

How To Choose A Laser Skin Clinic?

Due to the large number of laser skin clinics available these days, choosing the best one for you can be bit daunting. Thankfully, all you really have to do is be honest with your own situation and limitations. Are you free to spend a few weeks in recovery? Or do you need something quick and simple? Laser skin treatments can go either way depending on the situation.

So, the next time you’re booking a skin rejuvenation treatment at your favorite skin laser clinic, just ask yourself the following questions:

  • How far of a commute are you going to be making to complete your treatment?
  • Can you take the time off (if needed) to recover properly?
  • Are you aware with the knowledge and experience level of your surgeon?
  • Is the clinic’s laser equipment cutting edge and relevant to today’s techniques?
  • Can you afford to make the time and monetary investment needed to get good, or even better, outstanding results?

ONE LAST TIME FOR GOOD MEASURE: Choose a skin laser center that has an experienced surgeon and modern medical grade equipment. Make the effort and go through some laser skin tightening reviews of your potential surgeon and doctor. Google can help you find any bad reviews pretty easily as long as you have their full name or establishment. Trust me on this—you do not want to take any risks with this. Find the best skin laser center for your skin rejuvenation needs and you will thank me later!

Well! That was a mouthful... technology doesn't seem to stop; actually it seems to be speeding up! Funnily enough though, laser treatment doesn't seem to be going the way of the dodo anytime soon. Don't be surprised to see your beloved Sage revisiting this article every now and then!
