Fillers

Are you dealing with signs of aging or other problems with your skin? Would you like to be able to rejuvenate your appearance and improve the overall feeling of your skin, especially your facial skin? When you’re looking for a great way to help your skin look younger and healthier even as you’re aging, facial fillers may be the way to go. Although Botox is considered one type of facial filler, there are a lot of other great options out there, and you may want to choose one of them to help you look and feel your best no matter what your age.

What is a filler?

A facial filler is more or less just what it sounds like: a substance that is injected into the skin of your face to help improve its appearance. This may be done to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, or it may be done to help improve the appearance of an area where scars are present. If you have trouble with loss of facial volume, especially associated with aging, this may be a great solution for you. Facial fillers can also be used to treat sagging skin.

What are the names of some popular fillers?

There are quite a few popular varieties of facial fillers out there, and you may have heard them referred to by their trademarked names. If you’re thinking of trying a filler for yourself, be sure you consider all your options to figure out which one is best for your needs.

Restylane: This is a hyaluronic acid gel that is given through lots of small injections. It can help smooth your face and give you a very youthful appearance.

Juvaderm: This is also a hyaluronic acid gel that causes temporary contraction of the skin and can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Sculptra: This is a polylactic acid injection that is designed to improve overall facial volume and help you look younger and healthier. It is approved by the FDA and has also been used to treat facial volume issues in people with HIV.

Zyplast: This collagen injection can help smooth out wrinkles and scars but must be repeated as needed because the body will eventually absorb the injected collagen.

What are side effects of fillers?

There are some side effects of facial fillers you should keep in mind before you decide whether or not this procedure is right for you. Depending on the filler you choose, you may deal with some different side effects than you may have with some of the others. However, most of them are generally pretty similar. Keep in mind that you may have to go through one or more of the following:

Redness and swelling: This is usually caused by the injections themselves and should go away after a little while. You may also suffer from bruising at the injection sites, especially if you are the type of person to bruise easily. If you have any of these symptoms for more than a couple of days after the procedure, you should speak to your dermatologist about it.

Lumps and bumps: Sometimes, the injected filler may be visible under your skin as a lump or bump. It may also move around over time after the treatment has been completed.
